First established in 1980 by sole proprietor Mr Lee Weng Eng and his wife Jeanie Lee, New Formosa Restaurant has been offering authentic Taiwanese cuisine over the years. The New Formosa Stone-Fire Pot is an all-time favourite in the restaurant. Mrs Lee (from Taipei, Taiwan), who holds a master's degree in nutrition, insists on the use of fresh ingredients to ensure a healthy, nutritious and delicious steamboat experience. Experienced waiters will first stir-fry meat in the stone pot together with Taiwanese spices in front of the diners and serve them. After that, soup is added to cook the other ingredients, such as vegetables, mushrooms, prawns, and fish. Ingredients have been chosen for their health benefits, whether for the complexion, anti-aging, or a balanced blood pressure. The steamboat uses a specially modified stone pot which infuses the ingredients with a unique flavor, and ensures that the soup becomes tastier and not more salty. Another must-try dish is the Taiwanese Haaka Bamboo Yam Rice. The special Sweet Yam in Honey Sauce is an absolute treat. It's visually appealing with the golden maltose covering the yam crystallizing when plunged into ice water. Take a bite, and the crackling of sugar, fragrant sesame and powdery yam sends you into dessert heaven.
